The Retreat

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Psalm 91:1

At the right time, God allowed an experience to show me what it is like abiding in Him.

I was fortunate to take a cruise this year. I wanted to go first class, so I booked the Retreat for me and my daughter. The Retreat was a ship within a ship.

From the time of embarkation to actually stepping on the ship, we were treated with care and attention. The steward assigned to our cabin made sure we had everything we needed. He even told us how spaces throughout the ship were privately set aside just for us to enjoy.

It was amazing.

And then the visual came, quick and unmistakable: this is what abiding in Christ is like.

The ship still moves through the same waters everyone else is in — the same storms, the same open sea. But there is a place set apart inside it, and being in that place changes what the whole voyage feels like, even though the ship itself hasn't changed course.

As a child of God, this is my inner room. Set apart.
